ok, I did this remotely from work, but I cleared the preset channel
field for the tuner then using mythweb told myth to record one of the
channels assigned to the hdpvr and then checked the recorded programs
page and it showed up. checking the backend logs  verified that the
channel change and recording occurred. I can't tell if it properly
changed the channel, etc. but it did begin to accept data from the
hdpvr and all, so it looks like that worked out properly.
