 From the command line, if I don't specify a device, I can usually hear sound. 
In the following case, I can hear the file on both devices which seems strange to me since I'm connected into only one port.
Unless that means that 0,0 and 0,1 are simply two different names for the same device, one being analog, the other being 5.1 which is what the card is.
