That improves, but doesn't resolve, the problem. It seems the higher the
quality the VDPAU picture, the worse a) the stutter and b) the noticeable
lag between audio and video.

B) I'm using Mythbuntu, which in turn uses XFCE
C) This is a clean install of Mythbuntu (so "yes")
D) Not tried, but that suggests this is a MythTV problem, and I'm erring
more towards it being a VDPAU or GPU problem (but would welcome
confirmation)
E) Specification suggestions weclomed!

I'm using 10.10. Not tried 0.24 yet, but not convinced it would help (see
above).

OK, so there is a list of GPUs that support VDPAU, but what might be
helpful is a some discussion of the minimum specification GPU that will
run VDPAU and MythTV without problems. Anyone want to kick that off?
