I have been editing home movies since the mid 80's, first on VHS/
Super8/8mm then on Windows
and finally on Macs. Imovie was THE ONE and ONLY reason I switched to
Mac.

I spent 3 months while on a sabbatical a few years ago trying every
windows video editing software under the sun and
they all paled in comparison to Imovie. Starting with the fact that
most of them would randomly crash
while doing the final re-encoding.

The latest version of Imovie has rubbed me the wrong way with the
removal of the "output to tape"
and "Split clip at play head" features, not to mention they changed
the workflow.

Good(easy) workflow and great format support were selling points of
Imovie when I made the switch
in '04.

I may just have to take another sabbatical....
