My real 'desire' was for a totally fanless solution, though never having
been down this road before I was maybe being rather naive!
The old second-hand power supply that I'm using currently creates more heat
than anything else, so as funds permit I will be swapping it for a 'PICO'
PSU and external power brick.
The supplied CPU fan on its quietest setting is totally inaudible though,
and with the cover off it cools the CPU more than well enough.
With the cover in place I can watch HDTV or recordings for quite some time
before the temperature starts to worry me, so I'm hopeful that with a more
efficient PSU the existing ventilation slots plus the CPU fan will be
enough; if not I will get a local sheet metal shop to add some more slots in
the top of the case!
