Craig,
That is an interesting announcement, thanks for that.  Getting CableCARD
access into Mythtv might even encourage me to subscribe to cable again
after 15 years of total OTA.  But I also cherish the $100+ a month I
don't have to send to Comcast :).

But for my parents, cable is less of an option (living in a rural area).
I did find a forum

where people basically saw no difference in reception quality.

Both houses are about 20 miles from the transmission towers.  I actually
have more reception problems in town than they do (they can actually see
the towers).  We both have pretty decent Winegard antenna, theirs is a
bit longer-range more direction than mine.  In my case, a windy
overcast /drizzle late fall day can be a real problem getting HD,
especially the channels in the UHF bands.
