Of course, the answer to this is "it depends".  SSDs have larger block
sizes for writes so if you need to twittle a few bits here or a few
bits there, this effect will hurt you.  If you're writing large
amounts of data in such a way that you're writing whole blocks anyway,
this effect won't amount to much of anything.  On the other hand, if
you're writing to spinning media in such a way that requires frequent
head movements, you run up to a problem which is a non-issue on SSDs.
So it all depends on exactly what type of write you want to do.

The disk cache is really for avoiding re-reads, not delaying writes
for arbitrarily long times (which can lead to corrupt file systems on
power failure).
