I'm not a position to confirm it actually works at the moment, but a
quick query of the alsa:hw:0,3 (hdmi) on my Ion board says it should
support 8 channel output...

<pre>
dogbert ~ # ./query_alsa hw:0,3
Device: hw:0,3 (type: HW)
Access types: MMAP_INTERLEAVED RW_INTERLEAVED
Formats: S16_LE S32_LE
Channels: 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Sample rates: 22050 44100 48000 88200 96000 176400 192000
Interrupt interval: 20-371520 us
Buffer size: 41-743039 us
</pre>

but my receiver only does 5.1 (I know, pretty old, but it does what I
need) so I can't physically confirm.
