Makes sense, a binary blob could be disassembled or otherwise reverse engineered (make that "would be").

I wonder if the chip would decode non-DRM Silverlight and/or Flash as well as the Netflix DRMed stuff.

I guess I should just go ahead and order a Boxee, I wish it didn't look like a painted old NeXT cube machine that had had 
too much to drink.

They probably designed it to attract attention, so any guests seeing it would ask "What's That?".
