He just wants to get to a working version.  The November 2nd build just 
happens to be the latest one he tried before having problems, not 
necessarily where he wants to end up.  Since he crossed a database bump, 
the easiest solution will be to take the couple minutes needed to 
generate a new ebuild as far back as possible while still staying on the 
same database.  That would be November 10th.  If that version works, he 
can call it quits there, or start bisecting forward to determine where 
the faults show up.

If that version doesn't work, then he can drop back further, and deal 
with the repercussions you described earlier, discarding the recordings, 
moving them over to videos, mucking around in the database to salvage 
the recordings.
