[mythtv-users] Get get user job to run

I'm trying to set up a user job to transcode to something I can play 
on an iPad.  I've been following this 
(http://blog.gorwits.me.uk/category/transcoding/) set of articles, 
but I'm slightly stuck as I can queue a job, it appears in the queue, 
but it just doesn't run.

So :
created a script - and made it excutable by anyone
added an entry for Use Job 1
restarted backend (even rebooted system)
job appear in queue but doesn't get run

I can see nothing at all in the logs, and my script isn't being 
called. Automatic Commflag jobs run fine, just my user jobs don't.

Any hints what might be wrong, and how I debug this ?

System is Debian Squeeze running Myth 0.24.1 from Debian Multimedia.
