This can also be achieved outside of myth, or alongside myth, if you obtain a 
universal programmable remote control like one of the Logitech Harmony models. 
That's the way a number of us manage the ever-increasing number of devices we 
seem to accumulate these days.

Programming a remote - which is designed for consumer use, after all - is 
probably easier than writing code against an event signal generated by myth and 
passing it to LIRC. Of course, which you choose depends on your time, expertise 
and bank balance.
