Only the hardware snobs consider Atoms too slow for that.
I run an Atom/Ion2 ZBox as a combined BE/FE without issues,
as do several people I have cloned the setup for.

They work just fine for OTA capture/playback of 1080i ATSC
with commflag etc.. as well as playback of videos of all descriptions.
