I *think* the answer to that is the frame rate; 1080p is 30, 1080i is 60... 
but I don't see that mplayer shows that.  Damn.  

Wait; there it is.  Yeah, 1080p30.

Are you certain it's *in that mode*, though?  Does it tell you, or does 
your xorg.log tell you?
