[mythtv-users] Opinions on this frontend/backend hw selection...

This isn't really an answer you need/want... but... I did read your post ;o)

In the end I looked for compliance/convergence with NVIDIA drivers and
forums/groups who had customised mythubuntu for a specific end-target.

There are tweaks to various aspects of video-playback between versions
of say, Ubuntu, Nouveau, NVIDIA that even following a tailored
distribution can be unsuccessful with the initial installation.  I
also run XBMC on the same frontend and this seems to do its own thing
and playback has been flawless on the ION of any movie files, even
high-definition bluray.

I dont think this question of 'perfect hardware' or 'suitable
hardware' can be answered without the additional context of what has
to be done in a specific software release to get Mythtv to run
properly.
