This value has ZERO to do with the number of channels.

AES0=6 = 0x02 | 0x04

bit 2 is for non-audio
bit 4 is for non-commercial mode.

You can enter this value for passthrough on any mythtv system, 0.20
and probably earlier, this is an ALSA device
