Which version of mythtv are you using? (not just 0.24, what revision?)

In myth ; you go into the settings, general -> audio

Press the Scan Audio Device big button.

Select in the list:
iec958:CARD=intel,DEV=0

Check AC3 and DTS box.
Set the number of channels to 5.1
Enable upmixer if you want to.
Make sure Advanced Audio Settings is unchecked.

Save by pressing next until you get to the end of the configuration.

That's all you should have to do..
