Yes, apparently you are right. The same happens with openSuSE 11.2, which has git version 1.6.4.2-3.3 (I just updated it).
It replies: error: unknown option `dirty'.

OpenSuSE 11.3 has the 1.7.1 version which supports it.



Please use git 1.7.x.  We will not be supporting earlier versions due to bugs in git that have been fixed since.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I think your commit comment (https://github.com/MythTV/mythtv/commit/7af8c9a5bc6dff87c02783c34d872e21ee8b0101/) was a bit ironic?

We do not "insist" to use old braindead git versions. It is the official version provided by our distros. It's not a trivial decision to upgrade the MB, at least in my case.

And anyway, please treat your users better. We don't deserve anything less.
