Try a command-line run with --dd-grab-all and see if it helps.  If so, 
see http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/449426#449426 and

If not (actually, even if so--the --dd-grab-all would just be a 
workaround that may prevent triggering the issue), I'd guess it's one of 
those mysql server deadlock issues that seem to be plaguing users of new 
mysqld versions.  See

rest of the ticket/thread.  (And if the query cache stuff helps, please 
let us know which mysqld version you're using.  Thanks.)
