Thanks for all the replies to my questions. I did get 2 H24 receivers
set up this weekend. Overall it went very smoothly. Both hd-pvrs
work, and I think they are on different controllers (and have udev
rules):
T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=02 Cnt=01 Dev#= 5 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=2040 ProdID=4903 Rev=00.00
S: Manufacturer=AMBA
S: Product=Hauppauge HD PVR
S: SerialNumber=00A63A52
C: #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=c0 MxPwr=4mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=02 Prot=00 Driver=hdpvr
T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=04 Cnt=02 Dev#= 2 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=2040 ProdID=4903 Rev=00.00
S: Manufacturer=AMBA
S: Product=Hauppauge HD PVR
S: SerialNumber=00A63962
C: #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=c0 MxPwr=4mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=02 Prot=00 Driver=hdpvr
I am a little concerned about this, but so far no problems:
[ 1332.184029] hdpvr 1-5:1.0: firmware version 0x14 dated May 12 2010 10:29:31
[ 1332.184037] hdpvr 1-5:1.0: untested firmware, the driver might not work.
Luckily the DirectTV receivers are not H25, which do not appear to
have ethernet ports. I really wanted Ethernet so I could switch
channels over http. For now, I am just using a simple 1 line bash
script with "wget", which seems to do the job for switching channels.
I do have a ip-controlled power switch coming my way soon so I can
periodically auto-power-cycle the hd-pvrs. It would be nice to ensure
there are no recordings when I am doing this, so I will have to look
in to that a little more. Thanks for all the help. Now my main
mission will be to ensure this is super-reliable and wife-acceptable.
Thanks!
-Andrew
