[mythtv-users] How does the FE read recordings from storage groups?

I had an issue occur the other day where a FE couldn't find a
recording on it's own local disk.

I have the following servers in my system:
jj: master BE - hdhr
dawk: slave BE - hdpvr
curt: slave BE - hdpvr

Each server has one or more local hard drives. Per the
recommendations here, I've defined a single storage group on the MBE
only with the following:
/mnt/jj/single1/media/tv
/mnt/jj/single2/media/tv
/mnt/dawk/single1/media/tv
/mnt/curt/single1/media/tv

I used to NFS mount these dirs across all machines, but after reading
various threads on this list, have stopped and relied on the storage
group behavior instead.

The issue I had was that my wife was trying to watch a recording from
the dawk FE and the recording came up not found. The recording was
present on drive local to dawk but the FE couldn't find it. The dawk
BE was running, but on the MBE it showed as "not connected". I
restarted the dawk BE which "connected" it to the MBE which then
resolved the issue... but the behavior seems odd.

If the recording is on the local disk where the FE resides, shouldn't
the FE be able to find it? I sometimes bring down specific slave BEs
if the capture device of that BE is having issues in order to avoid
missed recordings while I troubleshoot - this used to be ok wihen I
NFS mounted but it seems like doing this now results in the recordings
on the machine with the BE down being unwatchable. Is this behavior
as designed? Anything I can do in terms of settings, etc to "fix" it
(other than going back to NFS mounts)?

MythTV is great software, thanks to all the devs.for their efforts.
Dave
