KHz sounds right.  I never tried it much with ClearQAM, but Ron may
have more insight in that regard.  Once you plug in the CableCARD
(even before you pair it up) it will download the channel list from
the OOB signal.  Then you just put in the same channel number you
would in the old STB, and it will find the correct frequency and
program id for you.
