i saw your (non-linked) reply to this, Giles... i'll keep it in here for
ease of finding..
[giles still has similar issues using 'sudo shutdown -P now' instead of the
halt command]

my sudo file has this at the end:

%mythtv ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/pm-suspend, /sbin/modprobe,
/home/myth/scripts/, /bin/sh, /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend, /usr/bin/irexec

myth ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/pm-suspend, /sbin/modprobe,
/home/myth/scripts/, /bin/sh, /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend,
/usr/local/bin/irexec

it's probably far from 'best practice', but it works, so i dont really care
:P

i also seem to recall that when you do edit the sudoers file, then you need
to add the entries at the very end of the file, and not part-way through.
some bug apparently where it wont apply those rules or acts strangely.
(atleast it is on *buntu)
