Thanks for responding.

Ozzy, you were on track with bringing up the issue of confusion with
where the lirc configurations being all over the place.

MythTV had installed a whole bunch of default config files in ~/.lirc

I thought I had unlinked them by creating my own .lircrc file, but it
would seem they still had an influence. So I renamed them all as *.old,
and then rebooted.

Then all my settings in my ~/.lircrc file took hold.
