 On the ubuntu side there was some findings that there was a needed 
 fetch from PPA for linux generic alsa headers, which may or may not 
 pertain to your distro... since you're hard-up for a solution I thought 
 I'd offer it...  got my Acer Revo 3700 working to HDMI audio out...
