It's not stock that's damaged - if it were then no problem - things
would be back to normal fairly soon.
These are factories that are flooded - so not actually making drives
now. Even when the water goes down, they will not be making drives
for a long time - it's not a matter of going in with a towel and
drying stuff out, a lot of stuff will be damaged beyond repair.
Walls, floors, furniture, machinery, etc, etc will all be completely
saturated with foul water (don't forget there will be a lot of sewage
in that water). Any electrics affected will most likely have to be
ripped out and replaced, and machinery will be a complete write-off.
But it's interesting to see how quickly supplies dried up. This
wasn't caused by the loss of manufacturing, it was caused by
speculative or panic buying. These things are shipped over in bulk by
sea - and that takes several weeks so there **will** still be stock
arriving. It's all the people buying drives that they wouldn't have
otherwise bought (some for speculation, some to cover planned or
potential future needs) that have "stripped the shelves bare".
