Let me also remind everyone that in addition to making changes to some 
other author's theme--changes that the author may not want to make to 
the theme, and, therefore, that won't help anyone else--another option 
is to create your own theme.

The main reason we have such a small selection of themes (much smaller 
than the tastes/desires of all our users) is because too few people are 
willing to step up and create new themes.  See, also,

out with development/maintenance of the theme you use--your theme's 
author may be looking for additional help.
