FWIW, last I knew, Red-Hat-based distros, such as Fedora, were still 
running MythTV apps (at least mythbackend) as root due to some issues 
with devices, permissions, HAL and/or PolicyKit and/or ConsoleKit.  If 
that's still the case, it's probably not something you want to "fix."
