    I don't believe the HDMI port is connected to the nv430 on that board.

That is correct. The HDMI and one DVI is connected to the CPU.
The Displayport and the other DVI is connected to the GT 430. With a cheap DVI->HDMI adapter you get both sound and video from the GT 430.
