[mythtv-users] Ceton Patch and Mythbuntu .24.1-fixes

As you may have read, I was having a problem where my frontends were
being starved of frames when the backend would swap out live TV
buffers.  It was suggested by Robin Gilks that I update my backend
because this was due to a bug where the scheduler was locking database
access that starved the frontend.

I just figured out how to get Ron's instructions to download what I
believe to be the up-to-date Mythbuntu .24.1-fixes source.  I needed
to add "deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/0.24/ubuntu natty
main" to /etc/apt/sources.list or add it as a source repo using the
package manager.

The next hurdle was dry running the patch. This was risky because the
source is newer than what Ron tested with. Unfortunately the patch
was kinda fuzzy.  All the fuzz was located in the configure script. I
tweaked the patch because it was obvious where Ron's modifications
were supposed to be. There were references to Video4Linux and
Video4Linux2 in the original Mythbuntu configure, but only Video4Linux
in the new fixes configure. Ron mentioned this in one of our chats
earlier. That worries me a little, but it compiled and installed
fine. I probably could have just used your non-Mythbuntu patch.

I tested all of this on one of my frontends. Now I have to find the
time to clone my back and and repeat the procedure. I will let you
all know how it goes.

I have no problem posting detailed instructions for others if it
works, but we may be chasing a moving target with these updates.
Mythbuntu 11.10 is less than two months away, but it is unlikely .25
will not be done in time. We might be better served officially
updating the patch for 11.10 when it is released.

Any thoughts?

-Tom
