[mythtv-users] what does "recorder failed" mean?

Unfortunately my wife restarted the machine in an attempt to get things to
work, so I no longer have the dmesg.

Not sure what you mean by that. Looking at the backend log, there are a ton
of those message, even for stuff that was successfully recorded. It looks
like every time a recording starts, something tries to access the recording
file a few times before it's actually ready.
