At last I think I understand what you've been saying. So it's not the act of sometimes watching a channel more or less live that you are arguing against the need for. You are just arguing against the use of the mythtv Live TV feature to fulfil that act.

That makes a lot more sense than what I had thought you were arguing, although still, even with it's bugs, sometimes I find the Live TV feature the quickest way to get the behaviour I'm looking for.
