[mythtv-users] Multiple Video Storage Directories

First off, a matter of terminology. Based on some clues in the original
post plus follow up posts, I'm pretty certain that the "Video Storage
Directories" mentioned are actually /recording/ Storage Group
directories and not Video Library Storage Group directories.

If so, then Simon's reply:

is exactly correct--Watch Recordings shows only a flat view of all
recordings without regard to physical storage location. And, not only

you can also move files between Storage Groups (i.e. from a directory in
the Default Storage Group to a directory in your Archive Storage Group)
without changing anything in the database.

Note, though, that Video Library (formerly MythVideo) Storage Group
support is the part that's incomplete, and it requires different
configuration, but once configured, you can get a view of Videos (in the
Video Library, as opposed to recordings in Watch Recordings) that's flat
/or/ that's organized by physical location.

So, if you want a hierarchical view of your recordings, you will need to
move the recordings to the Video Library and use the Video Library UI,
instead. Generally, this is only worthwhile for helping to manage large
collections of videos--so you'd only move recordings that you plan to
archive (assuming you're allowed to archive recordings in your area of
the world).
