I hope not. On my Debian system all the myth programs run with user 'mythtv'. It
was the same on previous distros I have used.

If you think about what you are suggesting, that would imply that *every* 
program run as a service would be run as user root, and that would definitely be 
a bad idea.

The startup procedures for your distro will have a method for choosing the user 
to run the service under.
