You might consider choosing a different mount point than /media. In the latest 
openSUSE version, the file system was changed to mount /media in tmpfs. All the 
fstab entries for /media were thus broken. I'm not sure if other distros will 
choose that approach, but calling it something like /video avoids the problem.

Unfortunately I don't have much choice because the Humax box that I'm mounting the myth folder on will ONLY let me mount a volume under /media and the symlinks for mythlinked recordings will only work on the Humax box if they're poining to the same source directory.

 
ie. /media/myth/Recordings/progname.mpg -> /media/myth/tv/100120120121002200.mpg will work only if /medi/myth/tv exists on the Humax box, otherwise the links are broken.

 
I can only hope that Ubuntu doesn't break /media in the same way.
