I would ask if you are, or have ever been, the owner of
a small or medium business, and figured out what the
fully encumbered costs are for the people (sitting around
waiting for a job), the truck leases, the truck equipment
(hey, even those ladders cost money, let alone the
cable meters that cost $10K+ each), the truck fuel,
the training to meet OSHA requirements (you do not
think you can just send someone up on that ladder
without training, do you?), the administrative overheads
to keep track of all of those things for your business
accounts and the IRS, etc.  One can complain about
the costs to do business and meet compliance
requirements (and many do), but you still have to do
it.  Scale matters, and while some small business
owners consider their time "free" to do these things
for themselves, it adds up quickly.
