I'm confused, how is the wishlist page a similar purpose?

What we're debating over are the idea of wiki pages that have
information on alternate methods of running MythTV systems that do not
fall into areas that the dev's feel is an area they want to have to
provide any level of support for.

The discussion is whether to completely ignore users looking into this
and pretend the ideas don't exist and deal with explaining why they
are "bad" every time, or having a wiki page that basically says,
"while this method of running a MythTV system exists and is possible,
it is an area that the MythTV community does not feel is a safe
operating procedure and does not wish to support the implementation
thereof"; followed by a summary of reasons, from the discussions, on
this mailing list as to why it is deemed unsafe and worthy of a lack
of support for. Perhaps followed up with a "DO NOT ASK ABOUT THIS ON
THE MAILINGLIST", or some such warning.

None of what gets discussed and "shot down" in this regard is
information that cannot be found elsewhere and could not be
implemented anyway by determined users, but many could be easily
dissuaded from attempting to do so because of these arguments.

The wishlist, as I understand it, is a repository of ideas users have
had that would make the MythTV software a better system in their eyes,
with the hope that a developer may see one, agree, and work on
implementing it.

To be honest, I don't see why you are pushing so hard against this, as
it would seem to free up more of your time with not having to respond
to mailinglist threads every time they pop up.
