without a kernel backtrace of what's likely to be a kernel panic, it
will be pretty hard to know why it's rebooting

This used to happen on one of my box with a 9400M nvidia chipset.

Do you have another linux box running ?
Set netconsole on the machine that crash and listen to it on the remote machine.

Now the bad news is that if it's actually a kernel crash, probably
none of us here will be able to do anything about it ...
