If all you need is a quick way to restore this system when it fails, I would
install two of your small drives, partition and format the primary for your
system, and place a single partition on the secondary. After you get the system
disk the way you want it, then boot the System Rescue CD and use partimage to
image each of the partitions onto the secondary. They go there as a set of
files. After that is done, disconnect the secondary until you need it. When you
do, replace the failed primary, setup the new one, hookup the one with the
backup, and restore the data with partimage. You then need to replace the
bootstrap. The process does not work as well with an automated backup, but it is
a way to get a failed system back up quickly.
