I am using 0.25 from the squeeze-backports from deb-multimedia.org and 
they seem almost OK.  So far I have had to change 
/etc/init.d/mythtv-backend because I think its using --logpath as though 
its --logfile and I wasn't getting any log files, and of course I have 
had to configure mythweb to fit in with my urls that I wanted.

I have had a separate problem with my tuners, but I don't think that is 
related to the packaging of mythtv, rather changing the tuner.  In the 
last 30 minutes I just received a new tuner and am currently in the 
process of setting it up.

I am not entirely sure what you mean by "safe on a production system".  
The rest of the system is my web server/mail server/firewall/ WAN 
router/dhcp server, and that has been uneffected by mythtv OTHER THAN 
the need to reboot frequently because the hardware in the tuners need to 
be reset.  The new pinnicle usb stick I have just got to replace the 
other tuner is external - so I am hoping if that ever locks up that all 
I need to do is unplug it and plug it back in.
