Neither.  MythTV uses an internal snapshot of the FFmpeg source code to 
build against, rather than struggle to operate using the wide range of 
versions that may be installed on end-users' systems.  This snapshot is 
stored in that external/FFmpeg folder.  The fact that it failed on MMX2 
and 3DNow methods would indicate some sort of problem with CPU 
detection.  What command line options did you use when you ran configure?
