I've had a closer look. The crucial tag is actually the TXXX (User Defined
Text) field, which contains a list of name/value pairs.

Musicbrainz inserts a name/value of "MusicBrainz Album Artist
Id"/"89ad4ac3-39f7-470e-963a-56509c546377", which is what Myth is looking
for.

Gui tools seem to have trouble coping with this tag format. I suggest you
use a command line tag editor such as exiftool (from
libimage-exiftool-perl package) to see the raw tags (use the "-a" flag to
see the whole TXXX list")

I use Quod Libet, which won't show the MusicBrainz TXXX tag after I've
done a lookup. If I add tag TXXX=89ad4ac3-39f7-470e-963a-56509c546377 it
results in a name/value of
"QuodLibet::TXXX"/"89ad4ac3-39f7-470e-963a-56509c546377". As you're using
a Musicbrainz product I wonder what you'd get if you try it ?

You should also try just setting the tag "compilation"=1. It may well set
the TXXX field automatically.

Failing that you could use a command line editor to set the TXXX
name/value pairs. Unfortunately I don't think exiftool can write ID3 tags
but there seem to be plenty around.
