[mythtv-users] Running mythbackend on a low-power device

Hi,

I'm interested in greatly lowering the power consumption of my recording
device. I was using MythTV for a while, and then a kernel update borked it
for quite a while and I wanted Netflix access, so I ended up going with
Windows 7 MCE. I'd like to go back to a Linux solution though, but I really
want it to be quiet and very low power.

I was thinking of combining the Raspberry Pi as a frontend with a router
with HD attached or low-power NAS running Linux. I have an HD HomeRun as
the recording device--the older 2 tuner model. I record only HD and would
like to have room for up to 3 HD OTA broadcasts to record at once.
Currently one tuner has ATSC signal, the other connected to cable for QAM.

Any current recommendations? I did find this:
http://seagrief.co.uk/2009/01/mythtv-backend-on-a-kurobox-nas/ but it's a
bit old and talks about SD recordings only. Is it possible to run MythTV on
any similarly low-powered, self-contained devices nowadays, with the
horsepower and bandwidth to do at least 2, maybe 3 HD streams? The Pi
itself seems a bit under-powered to record 2 streams and play them back.

I don't do anything too complicated with recording rules, and I'd be
willing to live without commercial skipping (I have for about a year now).
Presumably CPU usage would be minimal--just whatever is needed for the
network interface, as it's not encoding anything.

I was thinking around $100 ceiling, excluding HD cost.
