Dan,
My only experience with the rebuild issue is with my own h.264
HDPVR recordings. I don't know if the issue applies beyond that video
encoding type. That being said I have not spent much time looking for an
alternative.

What I do know is that mkvmerge, Avidemux and maybe even ffmpeg (avconv)
can determine a videos keyframes. I did spend a limited amount of time
trying to see if I could extract that keyframe data out of an Avidemux
"idx" files but could not figure it out. I also asked on their user
forum but received no answer. Now with Lossless Cut I have abandoned
Avidemux as it cannot delivery what I have now or that is what my ego is
telling me;)

What you ask for would be useful. I communicated with the MythTV
developer about the rebuild issue and he will fix it sometime in
December. Right now he is over-abundant at work.

My advise is to hold-on until December or see if ffmpeg (avconv) can
dump out the info in some usable manner. mkvinfo is limited to mkv
files. If you find something that is reliable please pass that on to me.
I would have no problem writing a script to load raw keyframe data into
the DB using the python bindings, I already have one I use for Lossless
Cut testing.

Doug
