As far as I know, MythTV should not be forcing the monitor off, but 
merely allowing (or disallowing) it to turn off. DPMS normally operates 
on a timer, and after a certain amount of inactivity on the inputs, it 
signals the display to go into standby. When you use the mouse or 
keyboard, it is supposed to reset the timer, and bring the monitor back 
out of standby. MythTV merely disables the timer while you are watching 
video, so your your lack of input is not perceived by Xorg as inactivity.
