If there was a prize, you would have been closest.  It was a matter of 
the USB being USB3 in the bios.
I disabled USB3 in the bios and now it works perfectly.  Jeesh.  Two 
days for that.  I would have though it would have stepped down to V2 on 
a V2 device, but apparently not.

Thanks for the great advice though.
