The problem I have with the internal dvd player is that it plays the 
track with the same number of channels as I have selected for output (2 
in my case). For example it always plays the 2 channel stream even if 
the 5.1 channel stream is available. And to make matters worse I cannot 
select the 5.1 stream. I ended up  ripping all dvds with only the 5.1 
stream to workaround this problem.
