[mythtv-users] ERROR_OPEM in setup troubleshooting

Hello- i'm trying to get a master backend server setup.

it's on a xbmcbuntu 12 machine. running .26 from the mythbuntu PPA.

capture card is a Leadtek HDTVcinema, faked into thinking it is a
KWorld ATSC 110, as documented in
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Leadtek_WinFast_HDTV_Cinema

when i try to set up the capture card in mythtvsetup, i get a frontend
id of ERROR_OPEN.

i've checked permissions, i've verified the backend isn't running.
can't get it to go.

i had this system up and running before a couple installs ago, but
everything except the /home/ directory has been wiped since then.

i cannot find any relevant logs that show what is happening.

can anyone point me in the right direction of things to start looking at?
