If the purpose is just a "just in case" reboot, I'd suggest you use the 
existing support for figuring out whether it's safe for the backend to 
shut down in your reboot script.  It can just keep checking until it 
finds a safe window for the reboot.  Look into mythshutdown.

We really don't have a way of saying, "Don't record anything at this 
time."  The only way you could do that is by changing your guide data so 
that there are no programs listed that run through that time window.  
There's no supported way of changing your guide data, so this wouldn't 
be at all ideal.
