I'm not using SUSE, but I have a couple suggestions:
1) Use mythconverg_backup.pl to backup database and store media
accessible to old and new system.
2) Shutdown current system
3) Install new OS using the existing hostname and IP address
4) Install current MythTV for your distro
5) Mount all MythTV related filesystems in the same locations they
were on the old host
6) Use mythconverg_restore.pl to copy database to new host
7) Run mythtv-setup to get visual feedback of the upgrade and verify
settings are correct for new system
8) Profit! or shutdown new system and fall back to the old one to try
again later.

I'm sure I forgot something...
